I am taking the ethical pledge because I see it as a step into the direction I want to see the world moving. A direction where we care for each other as humans beyond a mere transactional move. I want to make sure the social capital keeps raising. Because my heart knows another world is possible.

I am making the ethical move because as a sustainable copywriter, I’m responsible for the words my clients use to market themselves (and the words I choose to market myself). I want to elevate the brands and businesses that are doing good, with good ethical marketing practices. After all, it would be a bit hypocritical to manipulate people into buying a product that’s doing good for the planet and the people, right?

I’m exhausted and disillusioned by all the underhand sales tactics that are used so frequently today. I genuinely want to support people, teams and organisations, but when I reach out I feel like there’s a barrier of cynicism that’s a result of these unethical practices. I’m also concerned that I’ll get sucked into these ways of approaching marketing, and I want to resist that. I want to increase my awareness so that I don’t, and I want to support the move to ethical and transparent ways f working.

Marketing and Sales are human nature. They are are formalised versions of what we do to spread ideas, to win over hearts and minds, to bring people together and make a ruckus. We can’t risk for both terms to become synonyms for lies, deceit and selfishness. Because we never needed to win over more hearts and minds for ideas that may help us survive on this tiny rock. Instead, we need to show that marketing and sales rely on consent, care and competence.

I am making the ethical move because I believe you can run a profitable AND ethical business at the same time. Business owners shouldn’t compromise their values or revenue in order to run and grow a business in an ethical and sustainable way.
