TEM Pledge Translation & Remix Policy.

Overview

The text of the Ethical Move Pledge is designed for use worldwide and all industries, without any need for adaptation. For this tool to reach its full potential, The Ethical Move encourages linguistic translations of the text into as many languages as possible. We also encourage remixes of the Pledge for different industries, types of marketing, cultures and media.

This page describes the policy and process for developing official translations and adaptations of The Ethical Move Pledge.

The process for developing new translations or remix (each is called a “Pledgework Project”) is coordinated and overseen by the TEM Board in collaboration with our members. TEM reserves the exclusive right to approve and host official translations and remixes of its Pledge, as well as to modify this process and adjust Pledgework Projects at any time.

Per our policy, each official translation or remix is hosted at a specified link on the TEM website or on GitHub. The English original and the official translations will all be treated as equivalents. Translations or remixes of the TEM Pledge licenses that are not made in accordance with this policy are unauthorized modifications of our Pledge.

Pledgework process

Anyone may initiate a Pledgework project with The Ethical Move.

Note that TEM policy is to publish a single, official translation for any given language unless an important reason exists to allow more than one. If you want to start a translation project, please accommodate and encourage participation of others in the TEM community, including from other jurisdictions where the language is spoken. We will help coordinate this collaboration.

1. Create your GitHub account – or contact us

If you’d like to start a translation or remix project, one member of your project team will need to have a GitHub account. Here’s how it works:

• Visit GitHub and select “Sign up”.
• Follow the instructions to set up your account, verify your email, and log in.
• Please contact us and create a Pull Request – see step 5 on this page.

If you do not want to start a project or create a GitHub account, please contact us and we’ll create an issue on your behalf.

2. Create an Issue or Fork the Repository

The easiest way to propose a change (translation or remix) is to create an issue by following the steps in this official GitHub documentation.

You can use this link to create an issue directly in our repository

If you’re an experienced GitHub user, you can fork the repository:

• Navigate to the original Our Ethical Marketing Pledge repository.
• Select “Fork” (in the top-right corner) to create a copy of the repository in your account.

3. Create a Branch

Go to your forked version of the repository.

In the “Branch” dropdown menu, enter a name for your new branch, like update-pledge-text.

Select “Create Branch” based on the main branch.

4. Make and Commit changes

Select the file you want to edit.

Select the pencil icon to start editing.

Make your changes in the editor.

Scroll down and enter a description of your changes in the “Commit changes” box.

Select “Commit directly to the <main> branch” and then confirm by selecting “Commit changes”.

5. Open a Pull Request

Return to the original Our Ethical Marketing Pledge repository.

Select “Pull requests” and then “New pull request”.

Select your fork and branch using the dropdown menus.

Select “Create pull request”, add a title and description, and then submit the pull request

.

6. Respond and follow up

Monitor your pull request for any feedback.

Make further edits if requested. Updates in the same branch will automatically be added to the pull request.

To comment on a pull request in general, people can go to the pull request page and add their comment at the end of the page.

People can also comment in more detail by adding comments to specific lines in the text of the pull request by using the “Files Changed” tab and the “+” icon to add a comment.

7. Publication.

The TEM Board will alert you and publish an announcement on the TEM blog and social media when your official translation or remix has been published.
