Those of you following us on Instagram already know this: we’re changing our social media approach!
Social has served us well as a place for starting the conversation. And, just like any other business, we have to make decisions based on our values, our capacity and – yes – our numbers.
So we’ve decided to divest a bit – without going anywhere 😊 Read the exact reasons why in our IG post and read our newest Medium article by Jeanne Carlier linked below!

Once a quarter we hold a community workshop to explore the question: “What is Ethical Marketing?”
It is led by Jeffrey Shiau (The Ethical Move Community Host) and myself (Alice Karolina, the founder of TEM).
It will be held on Tuesday, November 15th at 9am PST / 5pm BST (yes, that’s next week!)
We’ll explore:
Ethical marketing is challenging each and every one of our assumptions about how we sell and are being sold to. We’re hoping to provide a starting point for those exploring this very big field of inquiry.
This workshop is free for members of The Ethical Move Community. If you’re not a member (yet), registration cost to attend this workshop is $25 CAD + booking fee.
A recording will be available for TEMC members who can’t make it live.
This is our last public event for 2022, if you’re keen on more connection, join our community! 🤗
Jeanne wrote a beautiful article on Medium deepening our conversation about social and how we use it.
In her piece “Approaching Social Media Through the Lens of Mental Health and the Environment” she shares candidly about her own usage of social media, what it does for her business, and makes us take a look at the bigger picture: how it affects our mental health and the environment.
“If you’re reassessing your relationship with social media, you aren’t alone.” is how it starts, and it has already inspired a lot of us in the community.
I want to embody the change I wish to see, to lead by example, to show others what I already know is true – we can grow thriving organizations while honoring the dignity and worth of everyone. But I also pledge to hold myself accountable – in daily decisions and goals set.
– Mary Knox Miller, Thought Leader Media
Treating humans like humans, and not numbers to sell to, is a basic right. I want to ensure my clients know that I am not here to sell to them in a robotic, inhumane way, and the service I provide is truly a service.
– Claudia Fox, Greenfox Bakery

*We share resources to broaden our horizons, deepen our knowledge of our industry, and learn how to market ethically. The ethical move team does not agree with every opinion, nor do we claim to have found the best resources on the subject. What support or resources would you like to see from us? Send a reply and tell us!
With the end of the year nigh (I know, right?) and our last public event in a week, we’re hunkering down and preparing for a larger expansion of our audience in 2023. Stay tuned!
We’re also doing a little mini design update which we can’t wait to share soon. 🥳
And.. we’re expanding our team! There are loads of volunteer positions to fill (access to The Ethical Move Community is the biggest benefit, aside from life-long friends).
Here’s what we’re looking for:
Key things about who we’re looking for: you deeply care about ethical marketing, take a strong stance in favour of social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (at TEM, we use the term ‘Collective Liberation’), and you’re able to volunteer 2-4 hours/week.
If you’re keen and fit any of these loose descriptions – reply to this email and we’ll take it from there!
Follow us on LinkedIn, join us on Discord – and check out our Medium Publication!
If you have a great topic to explore in an article, please send us your submission. We need all perspectives to make this work for everyone.
As always, thank you for following our moves!
We are so glad you’re here with us.
